Nidoking's Grove by SteveSketches Nidoking's Grove by SteveSketches
I've always been interested in the idea of what pokemon might look like in their natural environment. In the show and game it's always these super cartoony monsters in really strange situations. I wanted to draw one of the monsters in the original style, but in a realistic environment. This was good practice for my environment sketches.

I imagine that doing nature documentaries in the Pokemon world is super dangerous. "And here is the patriarch, the king of the forest. This is the Nidoking's territory. Further back, you can make out his mate. If anything is detected in the Nidoking's turf, it will charge without hesitation..."

Shoot, why even leave the house? Television in Pokeland must be amazing.

2 hours in Photoshop.

Great job in putting Nidoking in a beautiful environment! And I love how you added Nidoqueen camouflaged in the background. :aww:

I adore poison Pokemon. It's great to see them getting some love! I really like how you made this look more realistic, but the Pokemon still in their original style. Beautiful pic.

That is such a lovely background - I love the light filtering through the leaves, and the way the trees form a sort of 'frame' around the picture. This was a really nice idea, and brilliantly executed!
